On Monday (August 31, 2020) Japanese low-cost carrier (LCC) Peach Aviation announced two new routes for the winter 2020 schedule including service from Sapporo (New Chitose) and Okinawa (Naha), as well as flights between Sendai and Okinawa. The carrier will offer daily flights on both routes from October 25, 2020. With the introduction of the Sendai-Okinawa route, Peach will be the first LCC to connect the Tohoku region and Okinawa. Peach continues to establish new local routes in support of the revitalization of local economies, while implementing numerous measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, assuring guests that they can travel Japan with peace of mind. In Monday’s announcement, Peach’s Representative Director and CEO, Takeaki Mori said,
“We are able to announce these new routes today thanks to the significant support of the local governments at our destinations and everyone involved, so I offer my sincere gratitude. As a provider of public transportation, we will continue to implement thorough measures to prevent infection in cabins and airports and ask the cooperation of our customers in preventing infection at our destinations so we can offer safe and reliable flights.”
Peach Aviation completed its merger with Narita-based Vanilla Air on November 11, 2019, making it Japan’s third largest airline and largest low-cost carrier (in terms of passengers carried). Founded in March 2012, the carrier has a fleet of 30 aircraft and serves over 30 million customers annually on 21 domestic and 19 international routes. Peach was awarded the title “LCC of the Year” by the Centre for Aviation (CAPA) in 2015.
