On Wednesday (March 11, 2026), Lufthansa Cargo announced that they have become the launch customer for a new IoT-based ULD tracking solution developed by Jettainer, marking a new milestone in the partners’ long-standing cooperation.  Implementation has already started, and the technology will be rolled out across all ULD fleets for Lufthansa Cargo.  The announcement, made at the IATA World Cargo Symposium 2026 in Lima, Peru, highlights the companies’ joint commitment to innovation and digital leadership in global air cargo.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Lufthansa Cargo’s VP – Global Fulfillment Management, Oliver von Götz, said,

“Digital transparency is a key success factor in today’s air cargo industry.  By partnering with Jettainer on the rollout of next generation IoT tracking, we are enhancing visibility across our ULD fleet and further improving reliability, efficiency and quality for our customers worldwide.”

Also commenting on the new collaboration, Jettainer’s CEO, Dr. Jan Wilhelm Breithaupt, said,

“Lufthansa Cargo acting as the launch customer for our next generation IoT tracking solution marks a significant milestone for Jettainer.  Managing a ULD fleet of this scale requires maximum transparency, reliable data, and intelligent steering.  Together, we are setting a new standard for digital ULD management and strengthening operational control across the global network.”

Jettainer is responsible for the comprehensive ULD management for Lufthansa Cargo. The partnership encompasses the global steering, positioning, maintenance and repair of an extensive ULD fleet.  With the new partnership, Lufthansa Cargo will operate one of the largest dedicated ULD fleets in worldwide cargo and passenger operations, ensuring high availability across the carrier’s international route structure.  The new IoT tracking solution provides real time visibility of ULD movements across the global network. Instead of relying solely on fixed airport infrastructure, the system combines stationary and mobile readers, ensuring continuous tracking, even at locations with limited technical setup.

With over 100,000 Unit Load Devices (ULDs) in 500 locations worldwide, Jettainer GmbH operates the world`s most efficient ULD fleet.  Through their unique combination of dedicated teams and leading IT landscape, using big data and artificial intelligence, the industry expert guarantees steering and positioning as well as maintenance and repair with 100 percent availability of containers and pallets.  A strong partner and independent repair network, close to the customer’s processes, completes Jettainer’s global setup with local presence.  Jettainer is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lufthansa Cargo AG.
