Oman Air has launched an emergency humanitarian airlift initiative in cooperation with Oman’s Foreign Ministry and the Indian community in Oman. The carrier will guarantee 10 tons of free cargo space over the next 15 days for critical medical aid.
On Monday (May 17, 2021), Oman Air announced the activation of a humanitarian airlift initiative to carry critical relief aid to India. The initiative has been launched in cooperation with Oman’s Foreign Ministry and the Indian expat community in Oman. The airline has guaranteed 10 tons of free cargo space over the next 15 days which will be used to carry essential medical supplies and equipment from Muscat to various cities in India, as the nation experiences a second wave of COVID-19.
In Monday’s announcement, Oman Air’s Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Abdulaziz Al Raisi, said,
“Oman Air will continue to do its part, as it has throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, to transport essential medical supplies and emergency relief to those in need. India continues to battle the pandemic with tremendous courage and unity, and Oman Air stands ready to assist humanitarian organizations and agencies in the transport of critical medical aid from Muscat to city hubs across India. Oman and India have an exceptional, long-standing relationship and the deep ties that connect both countries are vitally important during times of crisis. We stand with India at this difficult time and we will continue to monitor the situation on the ground and assist accordingly.”
Oman Air’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Cargo, Mohammed Al Musafir, added,
“Our cargo team is working around the clock to ensure that adequate space is available on Oman Air flights to India so that essential aid personnel and agencies receive critical medical supplies and humanitarian assistance. Although the airline will essentially waive cargo charges on all COVID-19 aid to India for the next 15 days, shippers are still responsible for any applicable government or customs charges, either at the point of origin or destination country.”
