On Wednesday (August 20, 2025), Norwegian Air Shuttle announced the launch of new service from Stockholm Arlanda to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.  Starting October 27, 2025, the route will operate once weekly on Mondays.  This complements flights to Hurghada from both Stockholm Arlanda and Göteborg Landvetter which were launched last winter.  Customers traveling from Stockholm Arlanda will now enjoy direct flights to two Egyptian destinations.  Sharm el-Sheikh is popular for its warm climate, colorful coral reefs with fantastic diving and snorkeling experiences, and many fine hotels.  For the upcoming winter 2025/26 season, Norwegian will operate 194 routes to 77 destinations.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Norwegian’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Charlotte Holmbergh, said,

“We are really excited to be able to launch yet another direct route to Egypt.  The response to Hurghada that we started last year has been very good, so we believe that there is a great interest in discovering more of all that Egypt has to offer.  Sharm el-Sheikh is perfect for those who want sun, sea, culture and adventure all in one trip, so we look forward to the launch of the new route and to welcoming travelers on board.”

Norwegian Air Shuttle was established in September 2002 with four domestic routes and has since carried over 300 million passengers.  The airline Group, including Widerøe, is the largest in Norway and currently employs approximately 8,200 team members.  Most employees are based in Norway in Oslo, Trondheim, Bergen and Stavanger, or at the company’s head office at Fornebu, just outside of Oslo.  The carrier also has offices in Riga and Barcelona, as well as bases in Alicante and Malaga.  During 2024, Norwegian carried 22.6 million passengers.

The Group’s fleet, including Widerøe, now totals 135 aircraft, with 86 Boeing 737-800 and 737-8 MAX jets in the Norwegian fleet, and 46 De Havilland Canada Dash-8 and three Embraer E190-E2s in Widerøe’s fleet.  Widerøe Ground Handling also serves 41 Norwegian airports.  Norwegian currently offers affordable flights on a short-haul network of destinations in the Nordic countries and to key European destinations.  Norwegian aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 45 percent by 2030.
