On Thursday (December 30, 2021), Norse Atlantic Airways announced that they have received their Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) from the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority. The carrier will launch commercial operations in spring 2022 with the first flights on departure from Oslo to select U.S cities. To receive an AOC, which allows a company to operate aircraft for commercial purposes, the airline is required to have personnel, assets and systems in place to ensure the safety and security of team members and the general public.

In today’s announcement, Norse Atlantic Airways’ Founder and CEO, Bjørn Tore Larsen, said,

“We would like to thank Norway’s Civil Aviation Authority for a constructive and professional process. We are now one step closer to launching our attractive and affordable flights between Europe and the U.S. in spring next year. I would also like to commend my colleagues at Norse for their outstanding efforts getting the important AOC in place.

Also commenting on Norse’s important milestone, Norway’s Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Lars E. de Lange Kobberstad, added,

“We’ve had a good and constructive dialogue with Norse throughout the process of issuing a Norwegian AOC. We wish them the best of luck and look forward to a continued fruitful relationship going forward.

Norse Atlantic Airways’ vision is to be ‘The Explorer Airline’, offering affordable transatlantic flights. The carrier is building a high performance culture where diversity is valued and all team members feel a sense of belonging. Norse plans on working smarter, better and faster than their competitors, while leveraging their unique Team Norse culture to deliver an exceptional customer experience. The company’s head office is located in Arendal, Norway, with a second office in London. Once all 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners are delivered, the company expects to employ a dedicated group of 1,600 team members, both on the ground and in the air.
