Lufthansa Cargo Appoints Dietmar Focke as Chief Operations and Human Resources Officer

Lufthansa Cargo has appointed Dietmar Focke as the company’s new Chief Operations and Human Resources Officer. Mr. Focke currently serves as Vice President of Engine Services at Lufthansa Technik, and will join the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo on March 1, 2022.

On Friday (December 17, 2021), Lufthansa Cargo announced the appointment of Dieter Focke as Chief Operations and Human Resources Officer. He will join the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo on March 1st, 2022, and in his new role will serve as Labor Director and also assume responsibility for handling at the Frankfurt and Munich hubs, as well as Global Handling Management, Flight Operations, Security and Procurement. Mr. Focke currently serves as Lufthansa Technik’s Vice President of Engine Services, and succeeds Harald Gloy, who is leaving the company at his own request.


In Friday’s announcement, Deutsche Lufthansa AG Executive Board Member and Chairman of Lufthansa Cargo’s Supervisory Board, Dr. Michael Niggemann, said,


“I am very pleased that we have been able to win Dietmar Focke, an experienced Lufthansa colleague, as Chief Operations and Human Resources Officer. He will bring his extensive experience in logistics and the management of large operational areas and will also continue to lead Operations and Human Resources toward the future and strengthen Lufthansa Cargo's role in a fiercely competitive environment.”


Dieter Focke (48) has been responsible for Commercial Engine Services at Lufthansa Technik since the beginning of 2019. An engineering graduate, Focke started his career at Lufthansa Technik in 2001. After holding various positions in the area of Strategy & Business Development, as well as Airframe Related Components in Hamburg, he moved to Ameco in China for five years from 2010 to 2014. At Ameco, he was responsible for aircraft overhaul and other duties. Following his experience in China, Dietmar Focke served as CEO of Lufthansa Technik’s Base Maintenance Facility in Budapest until 2019.


With revenue of €2.8 billion and 6.5 billion revenue ton-kilometers in 2020, Lufthansa Cargo is one of the world’s leading air freight companies, employing approximately 4,400 team members worldwide. The cargo carrier serves around 300 destinations in over 100 countries with a dedicated fleet of freighters, as well as belly-hold cargo capacity of passenger aircraft operated by Lufthansa German Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings Discover and SunExpress. Lufthansa Cargo also operates an extensive road feeder service network. Lufthansa Cargo is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and is the Group’s logistics specialist.
