Lufthansa Cargo has appointed Carsten Hernig, previously Vice President Region – Latin America & Caribbean, as Deputy General and Vice President Production, Sales & Marketing at Shanghai Pudong International Airport Terminal Co. Ltd (PACTL).
On Thursday (January 26, 2023), Lufthansa Cargo announced the appointment of Carsten Hernig, previously Regional Vice President – Latin America & Caribbean, as Deputy General Manager and Vice President Production, Sales & Marketing at Shanghai Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal Co. Ltd (PACTL) in Shanghai. Although announced today, the appointment was effective October 1st, 2022. In his new role, Mr. Hernig is responsible for production, sales and marketing at the joint venture between Lufthansa Cargo and Shanghai Pudong Airport, which was founded in 1999. PACTL is renowned for providing customers with highly professional and sustainable air cargo handling services.
In today’s announcement, Lufthansa Cargo’s Chief Operations and HR Officer, Dietmar Focke, said,
“I am very pleased that we are welcoming Carsten Hernig, an experienced Lufthansa employee, to this important interface. His extensive experience at Lufthansa Cargo, especially in the international arena, makes him ideally qualified for the new tasks.”
Carsten Hernig succeeds Christian Haug, who had held the position since 2016. Mr. Haug will remain in Shanghai until the transition is completed, and is currently working to further expand Lufthansa Cargo’s successful business activities in China.
Hernig has been responsible for various functions in the Lufthansa Group for over 25 years, beginning his career as Manager in the Sales, Planning and Steering Team – Asia-Pacific in Singapore. He also previously served as Regional Director in Russia and Hong Kong, and was responsible for sales and handling as Director – South Asia and Middle East in New Delhi. From 2014 to 2019, Hernig served as Managing Director – Jettainer GmbH, one of the world’s leading companies in the management of ULDs, where he decisively drove the division’s internationalization strategy.
With revenue of €3.8 billion and 7.2 billion freight ton kilometers in 2021, Lufthansa Cargo is one of the world’s leading air freight companies, employing approximately 4,200 team members worldwide. The cargo carrier serves around 300 destinations in over 100 countries with a dedicated fleet of freighters, as well as belly-hold cargo capacity of passenger aircraft operated by Lufthansa German Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings Discover and SunExpress. In 2021, the company reached important milestones such as a fleet modernization to an all Boeing 777F widebody fleet, and the introduction of CO2 neutral freight transport for all customers. In 2022, the airline will equip their fleet of dedicated freighters with Sharkskin technology to reduce drag, and expand their SAF program to further reduce CO2 emissions.
