Today, Jetstar Asia announced the launch of new four-times weekly service between Singapore and Colombo, Sri Lanka from July 1, 2020. The new route will be Jetstar Asia’s 25th destination from Singapore, as the carrier becomes the only LCC offering direct service on the route. Additionally, this will be the first time a Qantas Group airline offers service to Colombo, the popular Sri Lankan hotspot. The route schedule has been timed to offer convenient connections through Singapore-Changi for travelers from Europe, Australia and Southeast Asia. Jetstar Asia will operate the route with a 180-seat Airbus A320. In Wednesday’s announcement, Jetstar Asia’s CEO, Bara Pasupathi said,
“As we face an ever-changing aviation and tourist landscape, Jetstar Asia is committed to continuing to open up exciting new destinations to our customers. Colombo and its surrounding area have so much to offer, from the sprawling city, to the beautiful beaches, incredible food and the many significant cultural, religious and historical landmarks. With our low fares, we’re excited to be able to open up this incredible destination to ensure more people experience all that it has to offer. This market has so much potential, and we’re proud to be working with great partners, including CAG in Singapore and Hayley’s in Sri Lanka, to expand the Jetstar network and continue to grow LCC traffic out of Singapore.”
Also commenting on Jetstar Asia’s new Singapore-Colombo route, Sri Lanka Tourism’s Chairperson, Mrs. Kimarli Fernando added,
“We are very happy to welcome Jetstar Asia Airways to the most beautiful island in the world; with nature, diverse culture, heritage, wildlife, Ayurveda [traditional Hindu system of medicine] and strong food culture.”
