Jetstar Announces Perth Expansion With Third New Asia Route, New Aircraft and Pilot Base Opening

On Monday (September 2, 2024), Jetstar announced the launch of new service between Perth and Bangkok starting Friday, September 6, 2024.  This is in addition to previously announced routes from Perth to Singapore and Phuket.  With one stop in Singapore, Jetstar guests can seamlessly connect to 17 destinations across the carrier’s Asia network, including Colombo (Sri Lanka) and Okinawa (Japan).  In support of further growth in Western Australia, Jetstar has officially opened a new pilot and aircraft base in Perth for up to 60 pilots and four Airbus A321neo LR aircraft.  The Perth-based jets are part of the airline’s pipeline of 38 new A321neo LRs and XLRs which will join the Jetstar fleet by 2029.

In Monday’s announcement, Jetstar Group’s CEO, Stephanie Tully, said,

“Strong demand continues for low fares flying and we’ll offer more than 300,000 new low fares seats a year with these new flights between Perth and Singapore, Phuket and Bangkok.  Last year we flew more than 370,000 customers between Perth and Bali, so we know West Australians can’t get enough of Asia, and we’re confident these new flights will be just as popular.  Initially basing up to 60 pilots and four aircraft in Perth will allow us to continue to expand our network out of the West in coming years, providing more choice for West Australians and boosting the state’s tourism economy.”

Also commenting on WestJet’s Perth expansion, Perth Airport’s CEO, Jason Waters, said,

“The airline has shown its commitment to Western Australia through its investment in new aircraft and the WA pilot base.  These commitments will create more local jobs and deliver enormous benefits to the tourism and trade opportunities.  Jetstar’s domestic operations have now also relocated to T2 which is next to T1 International – making it easier for Jetstar passengers to seamlessly transit between domestic and international operations.  We look forward to working with the Jetstar team in making these routes successful.”

Launched in in 2004, Jetstar Airways is wholly owned by the Qantas Group, and has to date carried over 350 million passengers, operating in Australia and New Zealand.  The Jetstar Group also includes Jetstar Asia in Singapore and Jetstar Japan.  A low-cost carrier, Jetstar is committed to offering everyday low fares to enable more people to fly to more places.
