JetBlue Names Michael Erbeck as New Vice President, Safety

JetBlue has announced the appointment of Michael Erbeck as the carrier’s new Vice President, Safety. He will report to Warren Christie, JetBlue’s Head of Safety, Security, Fleet Operations, Airports and JetBlue University.

On Monday (May 9, 2023), JetBlue announced the appointment of Michael Erbeck as the carrier’s new Vice President, Safety. Mr. Erbeck will be reporting to Warren Christie, JetBlue’s Head of Safety, Security, Fleet Operations, Airports and JetBlue University. In his new role, Erbeck will lead JetBlue’s safety office, overseeing the safe operations of over 1,000 daily flights. He will also lead JetBlue’s long-term safety strategy to identify and eliminate or minimize safety risks across the company’s operations, and work to evolve the airline’s already robust Safety Management System (SMS). Michael Erbeck will also oversee all safety-related programs including occupational health, safety awareness, and safety and environmental compliance programs. Finally, he will serve at the primary liaison between JetBlue and regulators including the FAA, NTSB, and OSHA, on safety and compliance matters.

In Monday’s announcement, JetBlue’s Warren Christie, said,

Also commenting on his new role as JetBlue’s Vice President of Safety, Michael Erbeck added,

Michael Erbeck brings nearly 30 years of aviation experience at United and Continental Airlines. He served as a Vice President for United Airlines until 2021, where he was responsible for leading the carrier’s large global hubs at Newark (EWR) and Washington Dulles (IAD) airports. At EWR he oversaw an average of 420 daily departures with a team of 14,000 employees, and at IAD around 245 daily departures and nearly 4,200 team members. Mr. Erbeck started his career on the frontline with Continental in Newark in 1993 as a ramp service employee. Over the span of his tenure with Continental, and later at United, he held a wide variety of roles in customer service, ramp operations, station operations, safety, risk management, GSE maintenance and reservations. Erbeck holds a private pilot’s license is a graduate of Daniel Webster College with degrees in flight operations and aviation management.
