JAL will become the first Japanese airline to offer free COVID-19 coverage as part of the JAL FlySafe program. The new insurance is underwritten by Allianz Travel and includes COVID-19 related testing and medical coverage up to €150,000.

On Friday (December 11, 2020), Japan Airlines announced the launch of complimentary COVID-19 coverage for international passengers, to ensure additional peace of mind. The new coverage is a first by a Japanese airline and is part of JAL’s FlySafe program. Underwritten by Allianz Travel, the insurance includes coverage of up to €150,000 for initial COVID-19 testing and subsequent medical treatment for customers who test positive during their journey. The coverage also includes isolation and repatriation costs and is effective from December 23, 2020. A global 24-hour support line has been established with service both in English and Japanese. to serve impacted customers.
In Friday’s announcement, Japan Airlines Managing Executive Officer of Passenger Sales, Hideo Ninomiya, said,
“As international flights gradually return to service, the JAL Group has implemented key measures against COVID-19 to provide customers a safe and secure travel experience. While it may take time to welcome back customers on a global scale, we hope this coverage with Allianz Travel will provide reassurance to those that need to travel today.”
