On Wednesday (March 20, 2024), Iberia announced that they have named their latest Airbus A350 ‘Bicentenario Policía Nacional’, honoring the 200th anniversary of Spain’s national Police.  The aircraft, registration EC-OFM, joined Iberia’s fleet earlier this month and entered passenger revenue service last week.  The naming ceremony took place in La Muñoza and was chaired by Iberia’s President Fernando Candela and the General Director of the Spanish National Police, Francisco Pardo.  The new Airbus A350-900 was escorted by a formation of agents, patrol cars and motorcycles from different law enforcement units.

Speaking at the ceremony, Iberia’s President, Fernando Candela, said,

“National Police agents and Iberia workers are there together, every day, with the aim of assisting the trips of millions of people so that their experience is as pleasant and safe as possible.  Our vocation for public service, our dedication to taking care of citizens and also the fact that we are the oldest in our sector.  With 200 years of history, you are the oldest state body of all the Security Forces in Spain, and we are the oldest airline in Spain: we will turn 100 in 2027.”

Also speaking at the naming ceremony, the Spanish National Police’s General Director, Francisco Pardo, said in part,

“Today a great dream is taking off with the help of a great company like Iberia.  The airline has honoured us by naming one of its aircraft after the Bicentennial of the National Police.  For us it will be a real pleasure to see your plane take off, proudly bearing the name of the National Police…

“…We in Spain should feel proud of companies like Iberia, for its great track record of public service since its founding almost a century ago, in 1927.  Iberia is providing us with a wonderful way of coming close to people, so that they keep in mind that their bicentennial police force is always by their side, no matter how far they travel.”

Iberia’s latest-generation Airbus A350-900 features added comfort in all cabins, more privacy, new lighting, state-of-the-art connectivity, and an elevated inflight entertainment (IFE) experience.  Thanks to lightweight materials and advanced Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, the aircraft delivers a reduction in fuel use and emissions, along with a smaller noise footprint compared to similar capacity previous generation aircraft.
