On Sunday (February 26, 2023), Iberia announced an expansion of their popular Air Shuttle service between Madrid and Barcelona. Pre-pandemic, the carrier offered 86 weekly frequencies on the route, but for the summer 2023 season, which runs from March 25th through October 2023, Iberia will offer up to 15 daily departures in each direction, with flights taking off every 30 minutes. Air Shuttle flights run from 07:00 in the morning, with the last flights at 21:00 or 21:30, allowing for convenient same-day trips. In recent months, Iberia’s Air Shuttle has load factors over 80 percent, close to pre-pandemic levels.

The Air Shuttle between Madrid and Barcelona is Iberia’s key domestic route, and is operated with a fleet mix that includes the carrier’s new Airbus A320neo aircraft. With specialist teams in both Madrid and Barcelona, the route has operated with excellent punctuality, which was 90.5 percent in 2022, and 91.3 percent year-to-date. Air Shuttle service also offers the advantages of Iberia’s ‘arrive and fly’ philosophy, including total flexibility to change flights via the Iberia app, as many times as necessary at no cost, the ability to select seats, and the counters, security and VIP rooms close to the boarding gates. This allows customers to arrive up to 20 minutes prior to departure.
