On Friday (December 10, 2021), Swiss regional carrier Helvetic Airways announced the opening of the first part of their summer 2022 schedule for bookings with service from Zurich and Bern. The schedule will focus on service to popular Mediterranean beach holiday destinations, and the carrier will operate their ecofriendly Embraer E-Jet E2 aircraft on the routes in partnership with various tour operators. From July through October 2022, Helvetic will deploy their E2 aircraft once-weekly in partnership with Hotelplan Suisse from Zurich to the Greek Islands of Crete and Kos, as well as once weekly flight to Larnaca (Cyprus), Antalya (Turkey) and Mallorca (Balearic Islands, Spain). Service to Mallorca can be booked via Helvetic.com, through any Hotelplan Suisse brans or through Mallorca travel specialist Universal Reisen.

In Friday’s announcement, Helvetic Airways’ CEO, Tobias Pogorevc, said,

“Ecological and sustainability considerations are becoming more and more important within the travel sector, for eco-minded tour operators and private individuals alike. It’s a mindset that is clearly shared by Hotelplan Suisse, which will be taking full advantage of Helvetic Airways’ advanced Embraer E-Jet E2 aircraft fleet for next summer’s flights from Zurich and Bern.”

Also commenting on more sustainable tourism, Hotelplan Suisse’s CEO, Tim Bachmann, said,

“The Hotelplan Group is firmly committed to more sustainable tourism, and to halving greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieving net -zero carbon emissions by 2050. With its low - emission Embraer aircraft, Helvetic Airways fits perfectly into our sustainability strategy, and that’s why it’s the right flight partner for us.”

Helvetic Airways will also gradually restore service from Bern for the summer 2022 season, with flights to popular holiday destinations from July trough October on departure from Belp Airport. Destinations on offer from Bern include the Greek Islands of Crete, Kos and Rhodes, along with Larnaca (Cyprus) and Antalya (Turkey). Helvetic will also offer two weekly flights to Palma de Mallorca. The summer flight program from Bern can be booked directly via helvetic.com. The flights can also be booked through all Hotelplan Suisse brands, except for Rhodes and Larnaca, which are operated exclusively for Hotelplan Suisse via TUI Suisse. Mallorca flights are also available for booking through Universal Reisen.

In addition to scheduled leisure travel services, Helvetic Airways will also operate various full-charter flights from Zurich, Bern and Sion for summer 2022 in collaboration with reputable Swiss tour operators and on behalf of the Bern-based airline flyBAIR.

Since the airline’s founding 18 years ago, Helvetic Airways has renewed their fleet twice, most recently by the introduction of the ecofriendly Embraer E190-E2 from 2019 onwards. The aircraft offers a 37 percent reduction in fuel per seat for a 90-minute flight compared to the Fokker 100s operated by the airline in its early years. The comparable per seat fuel reduction for the larger Embraer E195-E2 introduced the Helvetic fleet this year is even lower, at 44 percent.

Based in Zurich, Switzerland, Helvetic Airways offers a variety of short and medium-haul flights from various Swiss airports to popular domestic and European destinations. The airline uses their fleet of Embraer E190-E2 and E195-E2 aircraft for scheduled, wet-lease and charter flights. Helvetic also currently operates a fleet Embraer E190-E2s on behalf of partner Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) under a long-term wet-lease agreement. The company has around 400 employees and operates its own maintenance hangar at Zurich Airport. Helvetic Airways has worked closely with Horizon Swiss Flight Academy since 2008 which is based in Kloten, Switzerland, to develop aviation talent. Both Helvetic Airways and Horizon Swiss Flight Academy are subsidiaries of the Helvetic Airways Group, which is domiciled in Freienbach, Switzerland.
