German Airways Appoints Luc van den Avyle as New Director of Fleet

German Airways has appointed Luc van den Avyle as the carrier’s new Director of Fleet. He joins Germany’s second oldest airline from component manufacturer Electric Power Systems, where he served as Director of Business Development for the EMEA and Asia regions.

On Monday (October 9, 2023), German Airways announced the appointment of Luc van den Avyle (59) as the carrier’s new Fleet Director effective October 15, 2023. Mr. van den Avyle is an experienced manager, a studied aircraft engineer, and a trained helicopter pilot. He worked for Embraer for over 20 years, and will bring his knowledge, skills and experience to Germany’s second oldest airline, which operates an all-Embraer fleet. With nearly 40 year experience in the aviation industry, van den Avyle joins German Airways from the component manufacturer, Electric Power Systems, where he led sales for the EMEA and Asia regions.


In Monday’s announcement, German Airways’ Managing Director, Maren Wolters, said,


“We are very pleased to welcome Luc to our team. Especially as a small company, we are very proud to have attracted such an experienced manager to our airline. For us as a mid-sized aviation company, technical controlling plays a very important role in our economic success, and Luc will be able to provide us with excellent support here.”


Luc van den Avyle served as Embraer’s Key Account Manager – Commercial Aviation until spring 2023, and previously was responsible for the airframer’s defense and public sector customers. The Belgium native and helicopter pilot also worked for the Belgian Air Force, American Helicopters and Bristow Academy. Additionally, he worked as an aircraft engineer with Delta Air Transport. In his new role with German Airways, Mr. van den Avyle’s responsibilities will include technical supplier management and contract control, fleet development, lessor management, and strategic development of the carrier’s in-house technical operations and technical asset management.
