flydubai celebrated the launch of inaugural service between Dubai and Samarkand in Uzbekistan on Tuesday, September 21st. Samarkand is the airline’s third destination in Uzbekistan, complementing service to Tashkent, as well as Namangan from September 24th.
On Wednesday (September 21, 202), flydubai celebrated the launch of inaugural service between Dubai and Samarkand in Uzbekistan, becoming the first UAE carrier to provide direct service on the route. The aircraft was greeted in Samarkand with a traditional water cannon salute, and flydubai’s delegation, led by Chief Executive Officer Ghaith Al Ghaith, was welcomed by senior local officials including Gairat Nematov, General Director at Air Marakanda. Samarkand is the airline’s third destination in Uzbekistan joining existing service to the capital, Tashkent, as well as new service to Namangan which will commence on September 24, 2022. The route from Dubai International (DXB) and Samarkand International Airport (SKD) will operate twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays, expanding flydubai’s Central Asian network to seven points.
Speaking at Wednesday’s press conference, flydubai’s CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, said,
“flydubai is committed to opening up underserved markets and strengthening the links from Dubai and the UAE with the region. We are excited to see our network in Uzbekistan grow with the launch of flights to Samarkand. Since 2019 when we first started operations to Uzbekistan, we have seen sustainable demand and we are confident that the launch of our second destination will provide our passengers with more reliable and convenient options for travel.
“I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Minister of Transport, Hakim of Samarkand region and Chairman of Uzbekistan Airports for their support and look forward to a long and successful relationship moving forward.”
Also speaking at the ceremony, Air Marakanda LLC’s General Director, Gairat Nematov, said,
