Eurowings Appoints Edi Wolfensberger as Chief Operating Officer

Edi Wolfensberger will join the management board of Eurowings as Chief Operating Officer. Going forward, he will join Jens Bischof (CEO and Speaker of the Executive Board) and Kai Duve (Board Member Finance, HR and IT), as part of Eurowings Executive Board.

On Friday (February 11, 2022), Eurowings announced that Edi Wolfensberger, currently the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Brussels Airlines, will join the management board of Eurowings as COO. Mr. Wolfensberger will join company CEO and Speaker of the Executive Board, Jens Bischof, and Board Member for Finance, Human Resources and IT, Kai Duve, as part of Eurowings’ three-member Executive Board. Former Eurowings COO Jens Ritter will move to Frankfurt and become the CEO of Lufthansa Airlines on April 1st, 2022. Mr. Ritter succeeds Klaus Froese, who is handing over the post after more than six years on the Executive Board of Lufthansa Airlines. In the future, Klaus Froese will be flying for Lufthansa as a captain.


Edi Wolfensberger (40) has been COO at Brussels Airlines since 2019, and heads Flight Operations, Maintenance & Engineering, Ground Operations, and Safety & Security. He also serves as Brussels Airlines’ Accountable Manager. Previously, Wolfensberger was Managing Director at Lufthansa Aviation Training Switzerland AG, where he established cooperation within the newly merged companies within the Lufthansa Aviation Training Group from 2017 to 2019. Among other things, the company conducts cockpit, cabin and technical training for Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS). As Managing Director of the company’s Airline Training Center Arizona, he was instrumental in turning the Phoenix, Arizona-based (US) company around, with responsibilities for Finance, Human Resources and facilities.


Mr. Wolfensberger started his career in the aviation industry in 2007, as a Maintenance and Engineering Controller at SWISS. Over seven years at the airline, he held various roles in the Finance and Commercial Departments, most recently as Head of Channel management.
