From February 2023, Etihad Airways will add a second weekly frequency between Abu Dhabi and Shanghai. The route will be operated twice weekly with either a Boeing 787 Dreamliner or 777.
On Tuesday (December 27, 2022), Etihad Airways announced that they will add a second weekly frequency between Abu Dhabi and Shanghai, China starting February 2023 (subject to regulatory approval). With the added service, the carrier will now offer five weekly frequencies to the top three destinations in Mainland China, including a weekly service to Beijing and twice weekly service to Guangzhou. The two weekly flights to Pudong International Airport (PVC) in Shanghai will be operated with either a Boeing 787 Dreamliner or 777.
In Tuesday’s announcement, Etihad Aviation Group’s Vice President of Global Sales & Cargo, Martin Drew, said,
“Etihad Airways is delighted to add a second weekly passenger service to Shanghai following the further relaxation of Covid-related travel measures. China is a market of primary importance to Etihad, and as one of the country’s largest financial and economic centres, Shanghai plays a crucial role in our network. Etihad is committed to developing our operation to China, and we look forward to welcoming more travellers on board in the new year to experience our award-winning hospitality.”
The second weekly frequency between Abu Dhabi and Shanghai follows Etihad’s Launch of service to Guangzhou in October 2022, becoming the first international airline to operate long-haul passenger flights to the top three Chinese gateways since the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Etihad was also the first international airline to operate regular passenger service to Beijing in June 2022 when the capital reopened for direct international travel.
