Edelweiss is acquiring six new efficient Airbus A350-900s from summer 2025, which will progressively replace the carrier’s Airbus A340-300s by the end of 2026. The aircraft were previously operated by LATAM.
On Monday (September 18, 2023), Edelweiss announced that they will acquire six Airbus A350-900s previously operated by LATAM from summer 2025. By the end of 2026, the efficient, state-of-the-art aircraft will replace the carrier’s existing long-haul Airbus A340-300 fleet. With the addition of the A350s, Edelweiss’ long-haul fleet will be restored to pre-pandemic levels. Initially, the aircraft will be configured with 339 seats in three classes, including 30 lie-flat Business Class seats, 63 Economy Max and 246 Economy Class seats.
In Monday’s announcement, Edelweiss’ CEO, Bernd Bauer, said,
“The modernisation of the long-haul fleet is a milestone in Edelweiss' almost 30-year history. Edelweiss will thus operate one of the youngest long-haul fleets in Europe from 2026. The design of the Airbus A350-900 sets new standards in efficiency with state-of-the-art technologies and outstanding aerodynamics. It is one of the most environmentally friendly long-haul aircraft in the world.”
The Airbus A350-900 offers a greater range compared to Edelweiss’ A340 fleet, along with the award-winning ‘Airspace’ cabin with wide aisles, large-capacity overhead bins, and large panoramic windows. Every seat features high resolution screens and USB power, while Business Class guests will enjoy a generous 19-inch IFE screen. With the latest generation engines and lightweight materials, the A350-900 is one of the most efficient widebody aircraft in the world, delivering a 25 percent reduction in fuel use and less CO2 emissions compared to the A340-300, along with a 50 percent smaller noise footprint. The first aircraft will arrive in Zurich in summer 2025 and the A350-900s will be deployed across 20 long-haul holiday destinations in the Americas, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Indian Ocean.
