easyJet has teamed with RTX to activate Collins Aerospace’s GlobalConnect connected aircraft services on more than 330 Airbus jets. The service enhances safety oversight, pilot training and operational efficiencies.
On Monday (December 4, 2023), easyJet announced that they will become the largest operator to roll out Collins Aerospace’s GlobalConnect services on over 330 Airbus aircraft. The new capability will enhance safety oversight, pilot training and operational efficiencies. The Collins GlobalConnect solution enables the existing Flight Operations and Maintenance Exchanger system (FOMAX) to provide easyJet with valuable insights into fleet operations, enabling proactive decision-making and more efficient airline operations. This data exchange integration also brings the potential to simplify the avionics architecture, leading to further fuel efficiency gains through the gradual removal of quick access recorders. easyJet projects that cutting this additional weight could potentially save up to 500 tonnes of carbon annually fleetwide.
In Monday’s announcement, easyJet’s Director of Sustainability, jane Ashton, said,
“We are constantly seeking innovative solutions that enable our aircraft to be more connected. Collins GlobalConnect is one of the many initiatives we will use to drive operational efficiencies across our fleet and to help reduce our emissions.”
Also commenting on easyJet’s GlobalConnect roll out, Collins Aerospace’s President – Connected Aviation Solutions, Jen Schopfer, added,
“The FOMAX system in conjunction with GlobalConnect are designed to empower airlines with comprehensive data-driven insights, allowing them to enhance their operations and passenger experience.”
Collins Aerospace’s GlobalConnect will progressively be activated across easyJet’s fleet in the coming months, marking a milestone in the airline’s digital transformation journey.
easyJet serves over 150 airports across 35 countries and operates nearly 1,000 routes. The airline has a fleet of more than 300 aircraft, and over 300 million Europeans live within an hour’s drive of an airport served by easyJet. During 2022, easyJet carried more than 69 million passengers. The popular low-cost carrier (LCC) is dedicated to innovation and leads the industry in digital, web, engineering and operational efficiencies. easyJet joined the UN-backed ‘Race to Zero’ in November 2021 and has published their roadmap to net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
