On Tuesday (September 15, 2020), British Airways announced they will double up their offer to Pakistan with four weekly flights between London-Heathrow and Lahore International Airport. The new service will commence on October 12, 2020 and the route will be serviced with a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. Lahore will become the second city British Airways serves in Pakistan complementing their existing service to Islamabad. The London-Heathrow flights to Lahore will operate out of the airport’s Terminal 5. In Tuesday’s announcement, British Airways’ Director of Network and Alliances, Neil Chernoff, said,
“We are delighted to be starting direct flights to Lahore, connecting London and Pakistan’s two biggest cities, following the relaunch of our services to Islamabad. Our new flights will give us the opportunity to open up more of Pakistan to travellers from the UK, so they can experience its delights and rich culture. We also think this will be hugely popular with the British Pakistani community, giving them more convenient options to visit family and friends. For those customers flying to or from Lahore, our flights have also been conveniently times to allow seamless connections with flights serving the United States and Canada.”
British Airways has introduced a range of measures to ensure the health and well-being of its guests throughout their journey. Prior to traveling, customers will receive information regarding airport and onboard experience changes as well as tips on how to prepare for their journey. The carrier also encourages customers to check-in online and download their boarding pass for self-scanning at the departure gate, where possible. Guests should also practice social distancing and make use of hand sanitizer stations throughout the airport. While visiting British Airways’ airport lounges, customers are encouraged to use new contactless automated features including a new online food and beverage service. Naturally, facemasks must be worn throughout the journey and should be replaced every four hours for longer flights.
British Airways encourages customers to retrieve all needed items from their carry-on luggage prior to departure and to store the baggage under the seat in front of them if possible. Any customer experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should avoid traveling altogether. The cabin crew on all flights have been provided with PPE and all aircraft are equipped with hospital operating theater grade HEPA filters which remove 99.9% of airborne particulates. This includes microscopic bacteria and virus clusters which are filtered from the cabin air as it is recycled every two to three minutes.
