On Friday (June 3, 2022), British Airways announced the launch of new direct service between Portland, Oregon (PDX) and London Heathrow (LHR), with flight BA0267 touching down at Portland International Airport at 17:05 local time. As the aircraft taxied to the gate it received a warm local welcome. The route will be operated five times weekly with a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner configured in three cabins including Club (Business), World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy) and World Traveller (Economy). The return flight to London Heathrow departed Portland at 18:55 local time, just as the UK celebrates a four day weekend to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The inaugural flight was operated by Captain Meredith Bell, a 30-year veteran pilot with British Airways, whose daughter is currently studying at Reed College in Portland.

In Friday’s announcement, British Airways’ Director of Networks and Alliances, Neil Chernoff, said,

“This summer British Airways will be flying from 26 US cities to London and we’re very excited to be adding Portland to our list of transatlantic destinations. Not only are we the only airline to offer direct flights from Portland to London, but this new route also opens a wide variety of connections for our customers. Through Alaska Airlines, our oneworld partner, British Airways will offer codeshare connections to several destinations operated by Alaska Airlines from Portland.”
