On Thursday (March 30, 2023), Bonza announced the opening of their new Melbourne (Tullamarine) base and the launch of service between the Victorian capital and Sunshine Coast, just in time for Easter school holidays. Two of Bonza’s brand new Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft will operate from Melbourne with service to 11 destinations on 12 routes. The airline’s MAX’s are affectionately named Shazza, Bazza, Sheila and Malc. The new routes from Melbourne include destinations such as Bonza’s Sunshine Coast home base, as well as regional locations like Toowoomba Wellcamp, Tamworth and Bundaberg. Additionally, Bonza will launch highly anticipated service between Melbourne and Mildura on May 8, 2023.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Bonza’s CEO, Tim Jordan, said,

“Our team of legends have been working hard to set up and launch our second base at Melbourne Tullamarine. The Victorian capital is our second home and based here are a number of cabin crew, pilots and first officers who get to come home after a day travelling to regional destinations on our route map. Demand is high for Aussies to travel domestically and as the cooler months are upon us, Melbournites can now take a low cost flight to many Queensland destinations for direct access to winter sun - or stay within Victoria for a winter wine escape to Mildura.”

On arrival to Sunshine Coast today, invited guests and community members onboard the historic flight were treated to a celebration of the Sunshine Coast’s premier culinary festival, ‘The Curated Plate’, along the backdrop of Mooloolaba Beach. Bonza flights are now bookable through October 2023, and the schedule for Christmas and summer 2024 to be added soon.
