On Friday (April 7, 2023), Bonza celebrated the launch of new service between Sunshine Coast and Albury. At Sunshine Coast Airport, guests were treated to a visit by the Easter Bunny, and were also served purple hot cross buns from Adriana Zumbo. The new route will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays. Today’s launch comes as Bonza continues to ramp up their initial route map of 27 routes to 17 destinations, 93 percent of which are not served by any airline, and 96 percent not currently served by a low-cost carrier (LCC).

In Friday’s announcement, Bonza’s CEO, Tim Jordan, said,

“Sunshine Coast to Albury and return are amongst our best-selling routes so far. We’ve seen many people book for these school holidays and also into winter thanks to Albury’s close proximity to the ski fields and the Sunshine Coast’s warm winter weather. We’re looking forward to taking customers skiing and surfing on both directions of this new route. Albury Airport staff and the Albury City Council have been championing Bonza since we announced the regional city was on our initial route map and we are grateful for their ongoing support.”

Also commenting on the new service to Albury, Sunshine Coast Airport’s CEO, Andrew Brodie said,

“With two flights every week between the Sunshine Coast and Albury this new route is already proving to be quite popular for people wanting to catch up with family and friends, and there is also a lot of interest for people wanting to get away this winter to go skiing. While the Sunshine Coast is blessed with beautiful weather and amazing beaches, we are short on snow, so to be able to jump on a plane to Albury and be somewhere like Falls Creek, in less than two hours after you land, is very appealing to residents of the Sunshine Coast.”

Welcoming Bonza’s inaugural flight, Albury’s Mayor, Kylie King, said,

“The arrival of the inaugural Bonza flight from the Sunshine Coast is an incredible milestone for our region, adding another exciting destination to the list of direct flights from the Albury Airport. This new route gives our community the opportunity to visit our friends up on the Sunny Coast in record time and opens up the Albury Wodonga and surrounding region to a whole new group of travellers. I’d like to thank the teams from Albury City and Bonza for all their hard work in getting this first flight off the ground, marking the beginning of what I hope will be a long and successful relationship.”

Bonza is Australia’s new, and only independent low-cost carrier (LCC), enabling Australians to explore more of their own backyard at low prices. The airline currently operates a fleet of five brand new Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft, which will grow to eight by the end of the first year of operations. Bonza’s initial route map includes 27 routes to 17 destinations. Over 90 percent of Bonza routes are not served by any airline, and 96 percent are not served by a low-cost carrier. The lowest fares are now available for booking on the FlyBonza App.
