BARIG Welcomes Swiftair as Newest Association Member

The Board of Airline Representatives in Germany (BARIG) has today announced that Swiftair has become the organization’s newest member. Swiftair is a Spanish cargo carrier that has been operating for over 30 years, primarily serving European and African routes.

On Thursday (October 16, 2025), the Board of Airline Representatives in Germany (BARIG) announced that the Spanish cargo carrier Swiftair has joined the association. Operating for over 30 years, Swiftair primarily serves routes within Europe, as well as to North and West Africa. The carrier’s customer base includes leading global logistics companies as well as the United Nations. Swiftair provides wet-lease and charter flights, as well as aircraft maintenance services.
In Thursday’s announcement, BARIG’s Chairman and Executive Director, Michael Hoppe, said,
“Airfreight is undergoing significant transformation. Given the current challenges the air cargo business is facing, we need new and flexible solutions all the time. We are delighted that Swiftair is complementing the portfolio of our more than 30 international cargo airlines with its air freight services.”
Also commenting on their new BARIG membership, Swiftair’s Country Manager – Germany, Marcel Fleck, said,
“Swiftair is a good example of establishing flexible business models in the market. The cooperation within the BARIG air cargo community offers us a good platform for further developing our service portfolio. We look forward to the exchange within the working groups and to contributing to the successful future of our industry as part of the community.”

Swiftair was founded in 1986 and is headquartered at Madrid–Barajas Airport in Spain. With a diverse fleet of 43 freighters, including ATR 42s, ATR 72s, Boeing 737s and 757s, as well as Airbus A321s, the cargo carrier offers customized solutions for the entire European market.
Founded in 1951, Frankfurt am Main-based BARIG (Board of Airline Representatives in Germany e.V.) represents over 100 national and international airlines in the scheduled, charter, low cost and air cargo sectors. The association works to improve conditions in the aviation industry in Germany and is the key industry contact for politics, authorities, industry and media.
