Austrian Airlines to Relaunch Service to Los Angeles From May 2022, Expands European Summer Schedule

Austrian Airlines will resume service between Vienna and Los Angeles with five weekly flights from mid-May 2022. For summer 2022, the carrier will offer up to 1,300 weekly flights to 110 destinations, including new European service to Valencia and Kavala.

On Thursday (January 27, 2022), Austrian Airlines announced the resumption of service between Vienna and Los Angeles with five weekly flights from mid-May 2022. Flights will operate daily except on Wednesdays and Sundays with OS 081 departing Vienna at 09:55 and arriving in Los Angeles at 13:25. The return flight, OS O82, departs Los Angeles at 15:15 and arrives in Vienna at 11:50 the next day (all times local). The flight time for the approximately 9,900 km flight between Vienna and Los Angeles is 12 hours and 30 minutes. Austrian Airlines will offer up to 1,300 weekly flights to 110 destinations for summer 2022, and will significantly expand their European network, including new service to Valencia and Kavala.


In Thursday’s announcement, Austrian Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer, Michael Trestl, said,


“We are continuously expanding our offer with new long-haul destinations. This corresponds to our passengers’ demand that already showed last summer that they want to travel. Our new winter destination Cancún has confirmed this desire to travel. Los Angeles is the gateway to California, a popular holiday destination and transfer hub for connecting flights with our partners. On the new destination, we are expecting a balanced level of local and transfer passengers who will transfer in Vienna. The offer on short and medium-haul routes will be significantly expanded compared to last year. We will increase capacity by 12 aircraft. We are continuing our course as the Austrian flag carrier to connect Austria to Europe and the world in the best possible way.”


For summer 2022, Austrian Airlines will offer up to 33 weekly flights to the U.S. with daily service to Chicago, Washington D.C., New York (JFK and Newark), and five weekly flights to Los Angeles.

The carrier will also offer service to many beautiful European cities several times per day, including 36 Mediterranean destinations. Austrian will fly up to 78 times weekly to 19 popular holiday destinations in Greece, including 17 weekly flights to Athens, 11 weekly connections to Heraklion, six weekly services to Rhodes, three to Mykonos and five to Zakynthos. The schedule also includes service to Samos and Volos, as well as new weekly Tuesday service to Kavala starting June 14, 2022.


Austrian Airlines’ summer 2022 will also offer a comprehensive range of flights to Spain with up to three daily flights to Palma de Mallorca, double daily flights to Barcelona, up to five weekly flights to Ibiza, four weekly flights to Malága, twice weekly service to Gran Canaria and Tenerife, and one flight per week to Menorca. From June 4, 2022, Austrian will add Valencia to their route network with two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays (bookable from February 1st).


This summer, Austrian Airlines will also offer up to 115 weekly flights to 11 popular Italian getaways, including Catania, Olbia and Lamezia/Terme, as well as classic cities such as Rome, Milan, Bologna and Florence. During summer 2022, flights between Vienna and Florence will operated up to two times daily. Many other European destinations will be offered with increased frequency, including up to 24 weekly flights to Sofia, up to 17 weekly flights to Tirana, and up to 14 flights per week to Nice. Finally, Austria’s red and white carrier will offer up to four weekly flights to Iceland from June 4, 2022.
