For summer 2024, certain routes currently served by Austrian Airlines with Embraer E195 aircraft will be take over by Braathens Regional Airlines (BRA) under a new wet-lease agreement.

On Tuesday (February 6, 2024), Austrian Airlines announced that they have entered into a wet-lease agreement with Braathens Regional Airlines (BRA). Under the agreement, for summer 2024, certain routes currently operated by Austrian Airlines with Embraer E195s will now be operated in cooperation with BRA via wet-lease. This decision was taken due to the fact that travel on certain regional routes have not returned to pre-pandemic levels, especially business travel. The new wet-lease arrangement allows for adapted capacity on routes that are not economically viable for Austrian’s current fleet, and will now be operated by Braathens Regional Airlines with BRA aircraft and crews. The routes will be operated with 72-seat ATR turboprop aircraft with both Business and Economy cabins, and customers will be served the usual Austrian Airlines catering product.
In Tuesday’s announcement, Austrian Airlines’ CCO, Michael Trestl, said,
“On some regional routes, demand has not returned to its full extent after the pandemic. In order to be able to connect these routes to our Vienna hub in the future, we need adapted capacity structures. I am pleased to have found a proven partner in this challenging segment in Braathens Regional Airlines.”
Also commenting on the new wet-lease arrangement, Braathens Regional Airlines’ CEO, Ulrika Matsgård, added
“We are very pleased about the collaboration with Austrian Airlines and hope to be able to develop it further over time. We have extensive experience in providing this type of service at a high quality level and look forward to offering this to the Austrian market as well.”
