Alaska Airlines has today announced the launch of first-ever direct flights between Portland and Houston. The carrier will also resume service between Portland and Eugene, and also start new service between Medford and San Diego.

On Tuesday (January 14, 2025), Alaska Airlines announced the launch of new daily, nonstop service between Portland and George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston starting May 15, 2025. The carrier will also resume double-daily direct flights between Portland and Eugene, Oregon, and start new service between San Diego and Medford, Oregon. All three routes will operate year-round. Portland is one of Alaska’s key West Coast hubs, currently serving 58 nonstop destinations with over 100 daily departures.
In Tuesday’s announcement, Alaska Airlines’ VP – Network Planning and Revenue management, Kirsten Amrine, said,
“We’re based in Seattle, but Portland is a second home for us where we’ve been the largest carrier for more than 20 years. Our new flights out of Portland, Eugene and Medford show our continued focus on connecting Oregon with the rest of the country.”
Also commenting on the Alaska’s expanded service, the Port of Portland’s Chief Aviation Officer, Dan Pippenger, said,
“As passenger traffic at PDX continues to grow, so does the opportunity for airlines. We appreciate the continued partnership with Alaska that gives travelers more options to connect to major markets and more flights within our state.”
Houston flights will depart Portland at 10:30, while the return flights will depart Houston just before 18:00. Alaska’s new Houston route will complement existing service from Portland to Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin. The double-daily flights from Portland to Eugene have been conveniently timed to depart at 05:30 and 21:55. The return flights from San Diego and Medford have also been conveniently timed with a late morning departure from San Diego, and a mid-afternoon departure from Medford. From mid-May, Alaska will offer the most daily departures and number of seats from Medford.
