On Thursday (August 7, 2025), Air Transat announced the launch of new nonstop service to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from both Toronto and Montreal as part of their upcoming winter 2025/26 flying program. Flights will operate twice weekly from Toronto on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and once weekly from Montreal on Thursdays, where the service will be exclusive. Both routes will be operated with a widebody Airbus A330 aircraft. Air Transat will operate 14 new routes from their Canadian gateways this winter. From Montreal, travellers will enjoy nonstop access to Rio de Janeiro, Guadalajara, Valencia, Bordeaux and Madrid, and from Toronto, they will be able to fly to Georgetown (Guyana), Medellín, and Istanbul in partnership with Turkish Airlines, in addition to Rio de Janeiro.
In Thursday’s announcement, Transat’s Chief Revenue Officer, Sebastian Ponce, said,
“This enriched winter schedule marks an important milestone in the evolution of our network. By targeting markets we have never served before, we are pursuing a clear diversification strategy toward destinations that Canadians are eager to explore, supported by growing connectivity through our expanding network of partners.”

For customers eager to fly south this winter, Air Transat will offer flights not only from major hubs, but also from Quebec City, Windsor, Fredericton and Charlottetown. Connectivity within Air Transat’s network also continues to improve, thanks to complementary connectivity with Porter Airlines’ flights, which facilitate connections from Montreal, Toronto and Quebec City.
