Air Serbia has inked a codeshare agreement with Italy’s new national carrier, ITA Airways, which launched operations in October 2021. The codeshare will provide enhanced connectivity via the airlines’ respective hubs.
On Friday (November 26, 2021), Air Serbia announced the signing of a new codeshare partnership with Italy’s new national carrier, ITA Airways. Air Serbia will place their JU flight code on ITA Airways’ flights from Rome to Athens and Tirana, as well as to nine domestic destinations in Italy including Bari, Brindisi, Genoa, Catania, Lamezia Terme, Palermo, Turin, Trieste and Venice. Likewise, ITA Airways will place their AZ code an Air Serbia operated flights from Rome and Milan-Malpensa to Belgrade. Additionally, ITA guests will enjoy seamless connectivity via Belgrade to 11 select international destinations with Air Serbia including Athens, Banjaluka, Bucharest, Ljubljana, Podgorica, Sarajevo, Sofia, Skopje, Thessaloniki, Tivat and Tirana.
In Friday’s announcement, Air Serbia’s General Manager, Jiri Marek, said,
“Italy is a very important market, both for Serbia, and the region, which clearly confirms the strategic importance of the established partnership. We are happy to continue cultivating traditionally good relations with the Italian national airline. Also, we are pleased that we are helping improve and strengthen cultural and economic ties between our countries. It will be our great pleasure to welcome the passengers of our partner ITA Airways on Air Serbia’s flights, with our widely-known hospitality.”
Air Serbia was launched under their current name in October 2013 as the national airline of the Republic of Serbia. The carrier offers service from three Serbian Airports (Belgrade, Niš and Kraljevo) to destinations in Europe, the Middle East, North America and Africa. Additionally, through their codeshare partners, Air Serbia also offers long-haul service to international destinations in Asia, Australia, North America and Africa. The airline’s fleet includes one widebody, 10 narrowbody and five turboprop aircraft.
Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA Airways) was founded in November 2020 and is the new Italian national carrier wholly-owned by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance. The carrier launched operations in October 2021. ITA Airways currently operates 59 routes to 44 domestic and international destinations, and has plans to grow to 89 routes to 74 destinations by 2025. The carrier has a fleet of 45 narrowbody and seven widebody aircraft.
