On Tuesday (June 1, 2021), Aeromexico announced that they have received their first Boeing 737-9 MAX aircraft as part of the carrier’s ongoing fleet renewal program. The first aircraft arrived in Mexico City in the early morning hours of May 29th, with a second expected to arrive soon. Over the last decade, Aeromexico launched a landmark fleet transformation program with the goal of maintaining one of the safest, most modern, efficient and eco-friendly fleets in the industry. The Boeing 737-9 MAX’s winglets, new generation engines and other components deliver a 16 percent reduction in fuel burn and emissions compared to previous generation aircraft, as well as a range of over 6,000 km (3,240 nm).

Aeromexico’s new MAX 9 is configured with 16 Premier Class, 18 AM Plus, and 147 Economy Class seats for a total passenger capacity of 181. The carrier expects the aircraft to enter commercial revenue service in mid-June. Including the newly delivered aircraft, Aeromexico will conclude the month with a fleet of 108 aircraft including 10 787-9s, eight 787-8s, 33 737-800s, seven 737 MAX 8s, three 737 MAX 9s and 47 Embraer E190s. As previously announced, last April Aeromexico reached a deal with Boeing to increase their fleet with 24 new Boeing 737-8 and 737-9 MAX aircraft, as well as four 787-9 Dreamliners, which will be delivered between 2021 and 2022.

In a separate announcement on Wednesday (June 2, 2021), Air Lease Corporation (ALC) announced the delivery of the first of four new Boeing 737-9s on long-term lease to Aeromexico.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Air Lease Corporation’s Executive Chairman, Steven Udvar-Házy, said,

“ALC is pleased to deliver this new 737-9 aircraft to our long-term customer, Aeromexico, today. This new technology 737-9 from ALC will play a key role in Aeromexico’s route network and overall fleet operations.”
