On Thursday (February 2, 2023), Emerald Airlines, the exclusive operator of the Aer Lingus Regional network, announced the launch new service from Belfast City Airport to Newcastle and Nottingham East Midlands. Aer Lingus Regional has now re-established flights to all regional points vacated by flybe at Belfast City Airport. Daily service between Belfast City and Nottingham East Midlands will commence on March 26, 2023, with frequencies increasing to double-daily flights by mid-April. Flights between Belfast City Airport and Newcastle will operate daily from April 28, 2023. One-way fares on the new routes are now bookable from £34.99, based on a roundtrip purchase.

In Thursday’s announcement, Emerald Airlines’ Head of Commercial, Ciarán Smith, said,

“We are very pleased to be strengthening our schedule out of Belfast City Airport. As the demand for travel options from Belfast only increases, these two new routes will no doubt be warmly welcomed. Earlier this week we announced that we will be adding 15,000+ seats immediately across our existing network from Belfast City, and we will continue to grow these services in the months ahead.”

Also commenting on the airline’s network expansion, Belfast City Airport’s Commercial Director, Katy Best, added,

“Following the collapse of Flybe, East Midlands and Newcastle were the airline’s only destinations not served by other carriers from Belfast City Airport. Having Emerald Airlines step-up and operate the Aer Lingus Regional services on both routes, in addition to its already extensive network from Belfast City, is therefore excellent news as it leaves no Flybe destination unserved. Maintaining a robust route network and ensuring connectivity to and from Northern Ireland remains our priority, and we look forward to continuing and developing our successful partnership with Emerald Airlines.”

The new flights from Belfast City Airport to Newcastle and Nottingham East Midlands, will join Emerald Airlines’ existing service to Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Manchester, and Southampton. The carrier also offers summer service from Belfast City to Jersey and Newquay. Emerald Airlines continues to bolster their summer 2023 schedule, and will add over 180,000 seats this summer from Belfast City Airport, with more than 400 weekly flights to and from Belfast.
