On Monday (December 6, 2021), WestJet announced the release of their 10th holiday video called ‘WestJet Christmas Miracle’. This year’s theme focuses on the emotional and sentimental moments guests missed during Christmas 2020 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The video was filmed over the course of two weeks with an undercover team operating as a documentary film crew. WestJet interviewed Canadians in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver, asking them how the pandemic impacted their Christmas traditions and what they wished for most this year. The touching video features surprises ranging from roundtrip tickets, all-inclusive vacation packages and a global reunion between a mother and daughter.

In today’s announcement, WestJet’s Vice President of Brand, Communications and Community Investment, Richard Bartrem, said,

“The pandemic impacted everyone's ability to connect with families and friends for far too long and we've truly missed celebrating those moments with our guests. Hearing Canadians' wishes, we knew we could do something meaningful given how important travel is to Canadians from coast-to-coast. Unsuspecting Canadians authentically divulged so many relatable missed moments from flights home for the holidays, to family reunions and planned vacations that were postponed. We truly hope this year's Christmas Miracle brings joy and the personal connection we've all been wishing for the most. As the skies open once again, we look forward to doing what we've been doing so well for 25 years – connecting our guests with their loved ones.”

Celebrating 25 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent. The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to 100 destinations in 23 countries (pre-pandemic). Even during these unprecedented times, the carrier has maintained their rating by Cirium as one of the top ten airlines for on-time performance in North America.
