WestJet is expanding their Hawaii network this winter, with more Boeing 787 Dreamliner service between Western Canada and Maui, as well as new nonstop service from Calgary to Kona and Lihue. The carrier will offer 57 weekly roundtrip flights to Hawaii on 10 routes.
On Thursday (June 10, 2021), WestJet announced a significant expansion of their Hawaii network for winter 2021/22. The carrier will offer more Boeing 787 Dreamliner service between Western Canada and Maui, as well as all new service from Calgary to Kona and Lihue. This winter WestJet will offer 57 weekly roundtrip flights on 10 routes, the most service between Canada and Hawaii than any other airline. Weekly service from Calgary (YYC) to Kona (KOA) and Lihue (LIH) will launch in December, expanding the carrier’s offer to four nonstop destinations from Calgary and two from Edmonton.
In Thursday’s announcement, WestJet’s Chief Commercial Officer, John Weatherill, said,
“With easing travel restrictions, we know our guests are planning to turn their long-awaited Hawaiian getaway dreams into a well-deserved reality. We've increased our winter service to Hawaii by more than 25 per cent from 2019 to ensure our guests have increased flexibility and the most affordable, non-stop options from Western Canada.”
Further commenting on WestJet’s expanded Hawaii schedule, Calgary Airport Authority’s President & CEO, Bob Sartor, added,
“Our guests will love to say aloha to the additional direct flights to tropical Hawaii. We're ready to welcome guests back safely to the home and hub of WestJet and we look forward to the added sunny winter options for Albertans and connecting passengers from out of province.”
This winter, WestJet will add 787 Dreamliner service from Calgary and Ontario to Kahului, Maui (OGG) with 13 weekly flights, conveniently scheduled with daytime departures so guests will arrive in Maui in the early afternoon. WestJet’s signature Dreamliner service features lie-flat seats along with on-demand entertainment and dining.
Prior to the Global COVID-19 pandemic, WestJet and subsidiary regional airlines, WestJet Encore and WestJet Link, offered scheduled service to over 100 destinations across 23 countries in North America, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe. WestJet was founded in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees. Even during these unprecedented times, the carrier has maintained their rating by Cirium as one of the top ten airlines for on-time performance in North America.
