Starting May 11, 2025, WestJet will launch new nonstop service between Vancouver and Austin, Texas. The route will operate three times per week, unlocking significant tourism and economic opportunities in both cities.
On Tuesday (November 26, 2024), WestJet announced the launch of new thrice weekly service between Vancouver (YVR) and Austin (AUS) starting May 11, 2025. Flights will depart Vancouver at 18:00 and land in Austin at 00:17, while the return flights take off from Austin at 08:00 and lands back in Vancouver at 10:38 (all times local). The new route is expected to unlock significant tourism and economic opportunities in both destinations.
In Tuesday’s announcement, WestJet’s VP – Network and Schedule Planning, Daniel Fajardo, said,
“As we continue to strengthen our service across Western Canada, we are proud to add new WestJet service between Vancouver and Austin as part of our expanded summer schedule. This service will provide a valuable connection between the Greater Vancouver Area and Southern U.S., offering guests a convenient and affordable way to explore Austin's thriving music scene and renowned culinary culture, while also providing U.S.-based guests access to one of Canada's most iconic metropolises.”
Also commenting on the new route launch, Vancouver International Airport’s Director – Air Service development, Russ Atkinson, added,
“We are pleased to see WestJet's network into key U.S. destinations from YVR continue to grow, with the addition of service into Austin, Texas. Recognized as one of the best cities in the world for live music, this route to Austin builds on our existing linkages and is a welcome addition to WestJet's expanded summer service, which includes additional new non-stop flights from YVR to Boston, MA and Tampa, FL.”
With 28 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent. The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to over 100 destinations in 26 countries.
