On Wednesday (October 19, 2022), WestJet announced the launch of new service between Terrace B.C. and Calgary starting December 1st, 2022. The route will be operated by WestJet Encore with a Q400 (now De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400) four times weekly Monday through Thursday. The new Terrace-Calgary route will provide business and leisure travelers from northwest Canada with a convenient connection to WestJet’s home in Calgary and connections to over 800 weekly flights to over 65 destinations worldwide.

In Wednesday’s announcement, WestJet’s Chief Commercial Officer, John Weatherill, said,

“We are thrilled to provide increased capacity to support Terrace and Western B.C.’s critical projects and expanding industries. The West is our home and as we turn to an exciting new chapter of growth, we are committed to providing vital domestic connections that support the economic diversification and success of Western Canada.”

Also commenting on the new service, Northwest Regional Airport Terrace-Kitimat’s General Manager, Carman Hendry, said,

“The Northwest Regional Airport Terrace-Kitimat welcome's the additional service offered by WestJet. This will enhance our airport's ability to serve our region with a first-class schedule that connects Northern British Columbia to the world.”

In 26 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent. The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to 100 destinations in 23 countries (pre-pandemic). Even during the pandemic, WestJet maintained their rating by Cirium as one of the top ten airlines for on-time performance in North America.
