On Thursday (September 14, 2023), WestJet announced an expansion of their codeshare partnership with Air France. Starting September 25, 2023, WestJet’s guests will gain seamless access via Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) to 31 additional cities across 11 European countries, expanding codeshare destinations to over 53 cities. During the 10-year partnership, the two carriers have connected millions of travelers between Canada and Europe, with the convenience of a one-ticket itinerary and the ability to earn WestJet Dollars across the entire journey.
In Thursday’s announcement, WestJet’s Vice President – Commercial Development, Chris Avery, said,
“WestJet is thrilled to more than double our current destination offerings through our Air France codeshare agreement, significantly expanding opportunities for Canadians to turn their dream European getaways into a reality. As we prepare for our first year of winter flying to Paris, today's announcement marks an important milestone in our partnership with Air France, that will bolster seamless connectivity between Canada and desirable destinations such as Nice in the south of France, Helsinki in Finland and sunny Valencia in Spain.”
Also commenting on the expanded codeshare partnership, Air France-KLM’s Senior Vice President – Alliances, Fahmi Mahjoub, added,
“Air France and WestJet have a long-standing and extensive relationship with already more than 23 destinations offered across Canada under Air France code. With this development we are expanding the cooperation further and are honored to welcome WestJet's guests onboard our European network.”
With exceptional demand for service to Paris, WestJet has expanded their Calgary-Paris (CDG) service to year-round. The route will operate up to seven days per week during peak travel periods with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
In 27 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent. The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to over 100 destinations in 26 countries.
