WestJet’s inaugural service between Calgary and Seoul, South Korea took flight on Friday (May 17th), and was nearly sold-out. This is the first of 140 flights between the two cities that will operate for the summer 2024 season.
On Friday (May 17, 2024), WestJet announced the launch of their inaugural flight between Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN), in South Korea. The route will now operate three times weekly with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, departing Calgary at 17:55 and landing in Seoul at 20:45+1. The return flight departs Seoul at 22:45 and touches down in Calgary at 18:15. Friday’s service was the first of 140 Calgary-Seoul flights the carrier will operate through October 27, 2024, with the service returning for spring 2025.
In Friday’s announcement, WestJet’s EVP and Chief Commercial Officer, John Weatherill, said,

Through WestJet’s codeshare agreement with Korean Airlines, inbound guests to Seoul will also have seamless access to six additional cities across four Asian countries, while enjoying single ticket travel, baggage transfers, and the earning of WestJet Dollars throughout their journey. From Calgary, WestJet guests can also connect to Tokyo and seven European destinations.
With 28 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent. The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to over 100 destinations in 27 countries.
