WestJet Celebrates Inaugural Flight Between Calgary and London Heathrow

WestJet is celebrating the arrival of their inaugural flight from Calgary to London Heathrow. Flight WS18 departed Calgary on Saturday and arrived in London today at 12:00 local time. The new route complements existing service between Calgary and London-Gatwick.

On Sunday (March 27, 2022), WestJet announced the arrival of their inaugural flight from Calgary International Airport (YYC) to London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR). Flight WS18 departed Calgary on Saturday and touched down today at London-Heathrow at 12:00 local time. The new Heathrow service complements WestJet’s existing flights between Calgary and London-Gatwick, with up to nine weekly flights for summer 2022. In addition to London, the carrier also offers nonstop service to Paris from their global hub in Calgary, and is also launching service to Rome and Dublin in May 2022.

In Sunday’s announcment, WestJet’s Vice President – Network & Alliances, Chris Hedlin, said,

“We are pleased to provide our guests travelling to London for business and leisure with greater choice and convenience as we celebrate our inaugural flight to Heathrow Airport. This new route not only strengthens Alberta's travel and tourism pipeline but creates new opportunities for our guests to benefit from access to one of the most connected global aviation hubs. We look forward to providing Canadians and Europeans with enhanced connectivity from Western Canada as we further our commitment to supporting the economic recovery of inbound tourism on both sides of the Atlantic.”

With 26 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent. The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to 100 destinations in 23 countries (pre-pandemic). Even during these unprecedented times, the carrier has maintained their rating by Cirium as one of the top ten airlines for on-time performance in North America.
