On Monday (July 31, 2023), WestJet announced the launch of winter 2023/24 service from Abbotsford to Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos in Mexico. Flights to Puerto Vallarta will operate twice weekly from December 5th, while daily service to Los Cabos will operate once weekly from December 4, 2023. In addition to the Mexican destinations, WestJet will also offer daily year-round service between Abbotsford and Calgary, as well as five weekly flights between Abbotsford and Edmonton, ensuring guests are one seamless connection away from the airline’s 787 international hub, with onward connectivity across Canada, the U.S., Central America, Europe and Tokyo.

In Monday’s announcement, WestJet Group’s EVP and Chief Commercial Officer, John Weatherill, said,

“Today’s announcement brings more opportunity for our guests across the Fraser Valley to seamlessly connect to their favourite sun destinations this winter, as the WestJet Group continues to further solidify its position as Canada's favourite sun and leisure provider. We are proud to continue providing extensive and affordable opportunities for Canadians from east to west and everywhere in between to fulfill their aspirations to escape the cold and find the sun this winter.

“Abbotsford was integral to Swoop's success and remains a valuable part of the WestJet Group’s future. As we work through this transitionary period, WestJet’s service from Abbotsford will be centered on our strategic focus of providing non-stop connectivity to the sun destinations we know our guests rely on us for to escape the winter cold.”

In a separate press release today (July 31, 2023), WestJet announced an expansion on winter 2023/24 service to and from Hamilton, as the carrier completes the integration of their LCC subsidiary Swoop. From November 24th, WestJet will offer three weekly flights from Hamilton to Orlando and Tampa Bay, Florida. The airline will also offer three weekly flights from Hamilton to Cancun and Punta Cana in Mexico starting November 25 and 26th, respectively. Additionally, WestJet will offer four weekly year-round service between Hamilton and Calgary, providing seamless one-stop connectivity across their vast domestic and international network.

Speaking on the expanded Hamilton service, WestJet’s Mr. Weatherill, said,

“Hamilton was integral to Swoop's success and remains a valuable part of the WestJet Group's future. As we work through this transitionary period, WestJet's service from Hamilton will be centered on our strategic focus of providing non-stop domestic connectivity to Western Canada and the sun destinations we know our guests rely on us for to escape the winter cold. We sincerely value our strong partnership with Hamilton International Airport and the Hamilton community who have strongly supported both WestJet and Swoop over the years. We remain unwaveringly committed to engaging with local stakeholders and community members to expand and reposition our investments to best serve the city, for years to come.”
