On Monday (September 22, 2025), Boeing announced that Uzbekistan Airways, the national flag carrier of Uzbekistan, has placed their largest-ever airplane order for up to 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.  This includes a firm order for 14 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, with options for eight more.  These state-of-the-art jets will modernize the carrier’s widebody fleet, while supporting nearly 35,000 U.S. jobs.  This firm order was unveiled on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly meeting by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, along with leaders from Boeing and Uzbekistan Airways.  Additionally, Boeing and the Uzbekistan Ministry of Transport signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities to further expand the country’s aviation ecosystem.

In Monday’s announcement, Uzbekistan Airways’ Chairman, Shukhrat Khudaikulov, said,

“The Boeing 787 Dreamliner family has proven to be the cornerstone of our long-haul operations.  With this new contract, we are further strengthening both our airline’s and our nation’s position as a leading aviation hub in Central Asia, while providing our passengers with greater global connectivity.  This step reaffirms our ambitions and strategic commitment to sustainable growth.”

Also commenting on the new 787 Dreamliner order, Boeing’s SVP – Commercial Sales and Marketing, Brad McMullen, said,

“We value our nearly 30-year partnership with Uzbekistan Airways and will continue to support their growth strategy as they further connect the region and world.  With its fuel efficiency and operational flexibility, the 787 Dreamliner will help Uzbekistan Airways expand into new markets, connecting more travelers to their rich culture.”

As the first Boeing 787 operator in Central Asia, Uzbekistan Airways has leveraged their fleet to connect markets in Europe, Asia and the U.S., including direct service to New York-JFK.  With increased capacity and extended range, the 787-9 Dreamliner will enable Uzbekistan Airways to expand their international routes to the U.S. and other long-haul markets.  With advanced aerodynamics, composite materials and other innovations, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner Family delivers a fuel burn reduction and emissions of 25 percent, compared to airplanes they replace, supporting the industry's goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030.
