On Friday (September 26, 2025), United Airlines announced that the FAA has certified their first mainline Starlink-equipped aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, and the first commercial flight is scheduled to depart New York/Newark on October 15, 2025.  Less than five months ago, United’s first Starlink-equipped flight on an Embraer 175 regional aircraft took to the skies.  In 2024, United signed the industry’s largest agreement of its kind with SpaceX to bring Starlink’s fast, reliable Wi-Fi service free to MileagePlus members.

In Friday’s announcement, United Airlines’ VP – Digital Technology, Grant Milstead, said,

Customers are loving the Starlink experience onboard our regional aircraft, and our first Starlink-equipped mainline aircraft will bring a superior inflight experience to even more people.  We’re working to install Starlink and offer game-changing inflight entertainment experiences like streaming services, shopping, gaming and more.”

The FAA approved Starlink’s Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) amendment for the Boeing 737-800 to include United’s fleet.  Starlink continues to secure an FAA STC to install Starlink on every United aircraft type, including over 16 total regional and mainline aircraft models.

Currently, Starlink has been installed on over 50 percent of United’s regional fleet, and initial customer scores on those flights have shown 90 percent of customers appreciating the ability to stream onboard with Starlink's high-speed, easy-to-use and consistent connection. Starlink is free for all MileagePlus® members and includes inflight entertainment (IFE) experiences like streaming services, shopping, gaming and more, thanks to Wi-Fi speeds up to 250 megabits per second (Mbps).
