United Airlines Offers Customers a New Tool to Fight Jetlag – The Timeshifter App

Today, United Airlines announced a unique new partnership with the tech company Timeshifter, that will provide an app to United’s customers to help fight jetlag. The Timeshifter jet lag plan is now available to all MileagePlus members and Premier 1K members will receive a complimentary unlimited subscription. The app is designed for United passengers crossing three or more time zones and will help reduce the effects of jetlag as they travel throughout the airline’s global network. In today’s announcement, United’s VP of Loyalty and President of MileagePlus, Luc Bondar stated,

“We want to do everything we can to help improve the experience of traveling across time zones, whether it’s a business trip to Tel Aviv or a vacation to Tahiti, our customers should arrive feeling fresh and ready to hit the ground running. Timeshifter takes all the guesswork out of avoiding jetlag and instead uses science and algorithms to design a customized, step-by-step trip across time zones. I was a believer the first time I used the app and I think our customers will love it too.”

The Timeshifter app was created by top researchers in sleep and circadian rhythm neuroscience and will allow customers to create a custom plan based on factors such as normal sleep patterns, flight details and personal preferences. The result is a customized jetlag alleviation plan that includes instructions on when to be exposed to or avoid bright light and an optimized caffeine intake schedule. For travelers who take melatonin, the app will even suggest the best timing. MileagePlus members receive one free jetlag plan and can sign up for a complimentary trial that offers a second free plan. Premier 1K members can sign up for an annual unlimited complimentary plan. The Timeshifter app also offers individual roundtrip planning for $9.99 or an annual subscription for $24.99.

Today’s announcement is part of United’s commitment to improving the travel experience for MileagePlus members. Earlier this year the company announced that MileagePlus miles will no longer expire and a partnership with CLEAR to provide members with complimentary or discounted memberships.

United Airlines operates the two longest routes of any U.S. carrier with flights from Houston to Sydney and San Francisco to Singapore. This December, United will become the only North American carrier offering direct service to Cape Town, South Africa, with service from New York/Newark.
