On Thursday (February 24, 2022), Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) debuted their first Boeing 777-300ER, registration HB-JNH, featuring the new Premium Economy Cabin at Zurich Airport. The aircraft will be deployed on the Zurich-Miami route from March 2022. SWISS’ new Premium Economy product will be gradually installed on all 12 of the airline’s long-haul 777-300ERs and is now bookable on all sales channels. Premium Economy Class complements the carrier’s existing Economy, Business and First Class products, and offers a best-in-class experience is part of SWISS’ further strengthening of their position as a premium air carrier, particularly in the growing leisure travel segment.

In Thursday’s announcment, SWISS’ Chief Commercial Officer, Tamur Goudarzi Pour, said,

“Our SWISS Premium Economy Class is a top-quality standout product against our international competitors. And I am delighted that we can now offer our customers this new best-in-class air travel experience. Our Premium Economy Class should be especially appealing to travellers who have flown Economy Class to date and would like to enhance their inflight comfort and convenience. So it also helps us strengthen our premium-carrier positioning in the growing leisure travel market.”

Following Miami, the next destinations that will be served with SWISS Premium Economy equipped aircraft include San Francisco from mid-April, and São Paulo from the end of April. The new premium product will be available on all 777-300ER routes from the end of May 2022. While the new class of service is being introduced, customers will be offered a ‘for-a-fee’ upgrade if available on their flight, either upon check-in or at the departure gate.

Each 777-300ER will feature 24 of the latest generation Premium Economy seats from the manufacturer ZIM. The comfortable seats are covered in fabrics from the Bern-based Lantal company, and feature a hard-shell design that allows convenient reclining without impacting the guest seated behind. SWISS is the first Lufthansa Group airline to offer the newly developed ZIM Premium Economy seat. SWISS Premium Economy Class travelers will also be given a complimentary sustainable amenity kit from the Skysupply company, which makes innovative use of kraft paper and paper pulp to minimize the use of plastic.

Speaking on the airline’s commitment to sustainability, SWISS’ CCO, Tamur Goudarzi Pour, added,

“We put a strong emphasis at SWISS on making the whole travel chain as sustainable as possible, because we don’t just want to be a premium carrier for our guests: we want to live up consistently to all our responsibilities to the climate and to society, too.”

Premium Economy Class guests will also receive quality noise-reducing headphones, that will enhance their inflight entertainment (IFE) experience while viewing entertainment on their 15.6 inch seatback screen. Customers will also enjoy an enhanced inflight culinary offering including a refreshing welcome drink and choice of three hot meals. SWISS Premium Economy travelers can also check two bags up to 23 kilos each, twice the allowance of Economy Class, and will enjoy discounted access to the SWISS Business Lounges at Zurich and Geneva Airports, as well as Zurich Airport’s SWISS arrival lounge.
