Star Alliance Appoints SAS’ Charlotta Wieland as Interim CEO

The Star Alliance has today announced the appointment of SAS’ VP Alliances & Industry Affairs, Charlotta Wieland, as the alliance’s Interim CEO effective January 2023, while the global search for a permanent new CEO continues.

On Thursday (December 22, 2022), Star Alliance announced the appointment of SAS’ Charlotta Wieland as the alliance’s Interim CEO effective January 2023. Ms. Wieland succeeds Jeffrey Goh who is departing on December 31, 2022 as his six-year term ends. Currently SAS’ VP Alliances & Industry Affairs, Wieland will serve as the alliances Interim CEO as the global search for a permanent replacement continues. Charlotta has been the SAS representative on the Star Alliance management board for the last six years, serving the past two years as a member of the Board’s Strategy Committee. She has over 25 years of experience in the airline industry, with a strong record in alliances, pricing strategy, business development and distribution. Before joining SAS, Charlotta Wieland also worked for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.


In a separate press release from SAS, Star Alliance’s incoming Interim CEO, Charlotta Wieland, said,


“SAS has a special history with Star Alliance as one of the founding partners in 1997, and I am honored and excited to take on this role. I look forward to continuing to work closely with all partners in the development of this strong alliance.”


Founded in 1997, the Star Alliance network is comprised of 26 member airlines including AEGEAN Airlines, Air Canada, Air China, Air India, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, Avianca, Brussels Airlines, Copa Airlines, Croatia Airlines, EGYPTAIR, Ethiopian Airlines, EVA Air, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, SAS, Shenzhen Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, SWISS, TAP Air Portugal, THAI, Turkish Airlines and United Airlines. The Star Alliance network currently offers over 10,000 daily flights to nearly 1,200 airports in 184 countries. Additional destinations are available via Star Alliance Connecting Partners Juneyao Airlines and THAI Smile Airways.
