Today, Airbus announced that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with US low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines last October for 100 A320neo Family aircraft has been finalized. The order will consist of a mix of A319neo, A320neo, and A320neo aircraft. Miramar, Florida (US) based Spirit Airlines is the fastest growing American airline and serves the US, Latin America and the Caribbean. The airline will announce their engine selection choice later.

The A320neo Family of aircraft offer the widest narrow-body available and delivers a fuel burn reduction of around 20% less than previous generation aircraft. Additionally, the aircraft’s noise footprint has been cut by around 50% thanks to the latest generation of engines and advanced “sharklets” on the wingtips. Currently, Airbus has received 7,300 firm orders for A320 Family aircraft from over 110 customers and operators worldwide.

Spirit Airlines operates one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets in the US and serves 67 destinations with 500 daily flights. Late last year, the Miramar, FL based airline announced that they will be relocating to a new $250M campus in Dania Beach, Florida.
