Miramar, Florida (US) – based ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) Spirit Airlines has been named ‘Low Cost Airline of the Year’ at the CAPA Centre for Aviation’s annual Aviation Awards for Excellence ceremony. The annual gala, which took place in Malta, recognizes strategic excellence in aviation in various categories. The CAPA Centre for Aviation is recognized as one of the world’s leading sources of market intelligence for the aviation and travel industry. At Thursday’s ceremony, CAPA’s Chairman Emeritus, Peter Harbison said,

“Spirit Airlines has made the ULCC model in North America mainstream, and its growth has arguably resulted in the creation of fare classes in the marketplace, resulting in passengers having more choices and airlines improving their revenue management.”

Upon receipt of the award, Spirit Airlines’ President and Chief Executive Officer, Ted Christie added,

“We are committed to providing the best value in the sky, and this award recognizes our mission to deliver an extraordinary Guest experience, while keeping our costs and fares competitive. This award is a testament to the hard work of our entire Spirit Family across the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean, and a milestone in Spirit’s evolution to deliver More Go.”

Spirit Airlines has also been honored with a number of other recent awards including Air Transport World’s ‘Value Airline of the Year,’ an Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) Four Star Rating (2020) and FlightGlobal’s On-Time Performance Service (OPS) Award for ‘Most On-time U.S. Low Cost Airline.’ Spirit Airlines operates over 600 daily flights to 75 destinations in the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean.
