Spirit Airlines Expands in New Orleans With Nonstop International Service to Honduras and Cancun

Spirit Airlines announced on Monday that they will be expanding service from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport with nonstop service to San Pedro Sula, Honduras and Cancun, Mexico.

Today, Spirit Airlines announced the launch of new nonstop service from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) to San Pedro Sula, Honduras (SAP) and Cancun, Mexico (CUN). Service to Cancun will start on June 10th with the route to San Pedro Sula operating from June 11, 2020. Additionally, Spirit is adding an additional daily flight from New Orleans to Orlando International Airport (MCO) starting April 22, 2020. New Orleans is home to one of the largest Honduran population in the U.S. and the carrier’s three-times weekly nonstop flights on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays will help friends, family members and tourists seamlessly connect to San Pedro Sula (SAP). In Monday’s announcement, Spirit Airlines’ President and CEO, Ted Christie said,

Adding these international routes is part of our promise to invest in the Guest. Whether they fly to Cancun for leisure or to San Pedro Sula to reconnect with friends and family, we will continue to connect our Guests with the communities and destinations they seek the most.”
Spirit Airlines started service to/from New Orleans in 2013 with service to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW). Since then, the airline has grown to offer 22 domestic and international destinations from MSY. The carrier served 1.7M guests in New Orleans in 2019, a year-over-year increase of 20 percent. New Orleans is Spirit’s sixth U.S. gateway to offer service to Cancun, Mexico. Flights will be available four-times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Also commenting on today’s announcement, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport’s Director of Aviation, Kevin Dolliole added,
“New Orleans has one of the largest Hondurans in the United States, and we are thrilled that Spirit Airlines in now offering direct service from MSY to San Pedro Sula, Honduras – providing a much-needed connection for our community. On top of that, additional service to Cancun, Mexico will give our passengers even more options. Miramar, Florida-based low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines operates over 650 daily flights to 77 destinations in the US, Latin America and the Caribbean.
