Today, Spirit Airlines announced new seasonal daily nonstop service between Oakland, California (OAK) and Fort Lauderdale, Florida (FLL). The new service will commence April 1, 2020, making Spirit Airlines the only carrier to offer nonstop service on the route. Spirit Airlines began service from the San Francisco Bay area’s Oakland Airport in 2011, with a single flight to las Vegas (LAS), and has since grown to become Oakland’s third largest carrier. In addition to the new Fort Lauderdale service announced today, Spirit currently serves Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles and Las Vegas from Oakland. In Thursday’s announcement, Spirit Airlines’ Vice President of Network Planning, John Kirby said,

“Right now, our Guests on both coasts have limited options between the Bay Area and South Florida. Offering the only nonstop connection between Oakland and Fort Lauderdale makes it easier for travelers on both ends, and it shows our guests we’re tailoring our options to them as we keep growing our nationwide network.”

Miramar, Florida-based low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines operates over 650 daily flights to 77 destinations in the US, Latin America and the Caribbean. The airline allows customers to select and pay for only the products and services they want, something they call “À La Smarte.” Spirit also operates one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets in the US and recently firmed up an order for 100 new Airbus A320neo Family aircraft. The carrier proudly calls their youthful fleet the “Fit Fleet®.”
