Southwest Airlines announced Monday that they are bolstering service from Kansas City and San Jose to Fort Lauderdale in support of football fans attending Super Bowl LIV in Miami on February 2, 2020.

Today, Southwest Airlines announced the addition of flights from Kansas City, Missouri and San Jose, California, providing football fans more options when traveling to Superbowl LIV in Miami. The February 2, 2020 championship game will be held at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. On Friday January 31, 2020, Southwest will increase the number of flights between Kansas City, hometown of the K.C. Chiefs, to Fort Lauderdale from three to five. Likewise, five return flights will be available on Monday, February 3, 2020. For San Francisco 49er fans, the carrier has added a new nonstop flight between San Jose and Fort Lauderdale on Friday, January 30, 2020. This flight is in addition to existing one-stop and connecting flights from Southern California to South Florida. The return flights on Monday February 3, 2020 will also include the new nonstop service, as well as existing options. In Monday’s announcement, Southwest’s Director of Network Planning, Brook Sorem said,
“Our extra flight options are designed to make it easier for more fans to get to and from the championship weekend. Our all-star Teams across the nation, especially in South Florida, will provide exceptional hospitality for fan’s that’s sure to be score-board worthy.”
Dallas-based Southwest Airlines has distinguished itself by offering competitive fares that include “frills” such as free checked and carry-on bags. The airline’s 60,000 employees service over 130M customers annually with 4,000 daily departures to more than 101 U.S. and ten international destinations, during peak travel seasons. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, based on the number of originating passengers boarded, Southwest has been the largest U.S. domestic carrier since 2003.
